Medicinal Benefits of Cannabis

Many countries around the world have legalized medical marijuana, during this process many experts have changed their minds assuring that this plant actually has "healing" powers.

While the recreational use of marijuana is controversial, science is convinced that the plant should be legal for medical purposes. However, we take into account that there are negative effects of smoking too much: When used excessively, it can lead to dependence, modify your memory and emotions.

Marijuana contains two active chemicals that researchers claim have medicinal applications. These are cannabidiol (CBD) that improves brain situations and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that eliminates pain. Now we present some of the benefits that science has found:

1 Can be used to treat glaucoma

The use of marijuana can be used to treat and prevent ocular glaucoma, a condition that increases pressure in the eyeball, damaging the optic nerve and causing loss of vision.

Marijuana decreases the pressure inside the eye, according to the National Eye Institute: "Studies in the early seventies showed that marijuana, when smoked, lowered intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with normal pressure and people with glaucoma. "

These effects of the drug can slow the progression of the disease, preventing blindness.

2 Can help reverse the carcinogenic effects of tobacco and improve lung health

According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, marijuana does not impair lung function and may even increase lung capacity.

3 Helps control epileptic seizures

The use of marijuana can prevent epileptic seizures, said a study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.

Cannabinoids, like the active ingredients in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC), control seizures by binding to the brain cells responsible for controlling excitability and regulating relaxation.

4 A chemical found in marijuana prevents cancer from spreading

CBD can help prevent the spread of cancer, researchers reported at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Cannabidiol cancels cancer by deactivating a gene called Id-1.

5 Decrease anxiety

Medical marijuana users claim that the medication helps relieve pain and suppresses nausea, the two main reasons why it is often used to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy.

In 2010, researchers at the Harvard Medical School suggested that some of the benefits of the drug is reduced anxiety, which improves the smoker's mood and would act as a low-dose sedative.

But be careful, because higher doses can increase anxiety and make you paranoid.

6 THC slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease

Marijuana may be able to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease, say scientists at the Scripps Research Institute.

The study, published in the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics, found that THC, the active chemical in marijuana, slows the formation of amyloid plaques by blocking the enzyme in the brain that produces them. These plaques are the ones that kill brain cells and cause Alzheimer's.

Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana also known as medical cannabis is used to define the use of cannabis and cannabinoids within the cannabis for either improving symptoms or treating the disease.

Unfortunately; thanks to numerous product restrictions, marijuana as a medicine hasn’t been tested with vigor in the scientific field. In this light, there is very minimal evidence to prove that marijuana can be used effectively for the following:

Improve the appetite in patients suffering from HIV/AIDS
Effectively treat chronic pain including muscle spasms
Minimize vomiting and nausea while undergoing chemotherapy treatment

Besides; cannabis use for various medical applications is not sufficient to conclude beyond reasonable doubt about efficacy and its safety.

Clinical trials and studies, however, show that cannabis short term use elevates minor and major adverse effects. Some of the numerous documents side effects of medical marijuana use include hallucinations, dizziness, vomiting and feeling overly tired.

That said; however, the long-term impact of cannabis use remain unclear.

The effects that have picked interest that could end up being long term effects include; cognition and memory problems, schizophrenia in young adults, addiction, high risk of children using marijuana!

Introduction of Marijuana in Modern Medicine:

William Brooke O’Shaughnessy, an Irish physician, is recognized as the man behind the introduction of cannabis for therapeutic use to Western Medicine.

Dr. Brooke introduced marijuana into medicine for the treatment of general pain, muscle spasms, and stomach cramps.

in 1964, Manley West and Albert Lockhart started studying the health effects attributed to traditional marijuana use in Jamaican communities.

Their research lead to the development of ‘Canasol’ in 1987 which was later marketed as the first cannabis extracts for medical purposes.

Cannabinoids Use In Medicine

CBD and THC are the main marijuana cannabinoids that have been approved for medical purposes. CBD is used for suppressing pain and inflammation, treating addictions mental illness and for the control of epileptic seizures.

THC, on the other hand, reduces nausea and increases appetite. THC is an agent that is used in decreasing swelling and redness, lowering pain levels, inflammation and muscle problems.

Types of Weed

Below we look at several, different medical marijuana strains.

Indica Marijuana Strains: The Indica plants genetics originates from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The strain’s primary use was for hashish production. The Indica strain sets a heavier, sedating stone that is often used to relieve pain.

The strain is smoked mostly by people wanting to relieve pain in their joints and other parts of the body.

Hybrid Marijuana Strains: These are familiar strains nowadays. The hybrid strain comes from efforts of combining and bettering favorable genetics. The combines strains help in addressing several problems at the same time.
The hybrid strain can alleviate pain, nausea, etc.

Sativa Marijuana Strains: Strains that are accredited with their high cerebral uplifting, these strains are quite popular with recreational users and the medical marijuana community. Cannabis sativa strains are extensively for anxiety relief, muscle tension relief, depression relief, etc.

Major Diseases Cured with Marijuana

Major  Diseases You never knew Marijuana | Cannabis Could Cure.
For years, research has shown that some components of
Cannabis are effective for treating various conditions, particularly Chronic Pain.   There are major diseases Cannabis could cure and cured with Marijuana.

AIDS/HIV
In a human study of 10 HIV-positive marijuana smokers, scientists found people who smoked marijuana ate better, slept better and experienced a better mood. Another small study of 50 people found patients that smoked cannabis saw less neuropathic pain.

Alzheimer's
Medical marijuana and some of the plant's chemicals have been used to help Alzheimer's patients gain weight, and research found that it lessens some of the agitated behavior that patients can exhibit. In one cell study, researchers found it slowed the progress of protein deposits in the brain. Scientists think these proteins may be part of what causes Alzheimer's, although no one knows what causes the disease.

Arthritis
A study of 58 patients using the derivatives of marijuana found they had less arthritis pain and slept better. Another review of studies concluded marijuana may help fight pain-causing inflammation.

Asthma
Studies are contradictory, but some early work suggests it reduced exercise-induced asthma. Other cell studies showed smoking marijuana could dilate human airways, but some patients experienced a tight feeling in their chests and throats. A study in mice found similar results.

Cancer
Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy often suffer from nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, symptoms that can be countered by the use of cannabis.  Animal studies have shown some marijuana extracts may kill certain cancer cells. Other cell studies show it may stop cancer growth, and with mice, THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, improved the impact of radiation on cancer cells. Marijuana can also prevent the nausea that often accompanies chemotherapy treatment used to treat cancer.

Chronic pain
Some animal and small human studies show that cannabinoids can have a "substantial analgesic effect." People widely used them for pain relief in the 1800s. Some medicines based on cannabis such as Sativex are being tested on multiple sclerosis patients and used to treat cancer pain. The drug has been approved in Canada and in some European countries. In another trial involving 56 human patients, scientists saw a 30% reduction in pain in those who smoked marijuana.

Crohn's disease
In a small pilot study of 13 patients watched over three months, researchers found inhaled cannabis did improve life for people suffering from ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It helped ease people's pain, limited the frequency of diarrhea and helped with weight gain.

Epilepsy
Medical marijuana extract in early trials at the NYU Langone Medical Center showed a 50% reduction in the frequency of certain seizures in children and adults in a study of 213 patients recently.
Orrin Devinsky, a neurologist at New York University Langone Medical Center, and his colleagues across multiple research centers published the results from the largest study to date of a cannabis-based drug for treatment-resistant epilepsy in the Lancet Neurology.  The researchers treated 162 patients with an extract of 99 percent cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive chemical in marijuana, and monitored them for 12 weeks. This treatment was given as an add-on to the patients’ existing medications and the trial was open-label (everyone knew what they were getting). The researchers reported the intervention reduced motor seizures at a rate  similar to existing drugs (a median of 36.5 percent) and 2 percent of patients became completely seizure free.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness. Scientists have looked at THC's impact on this disease on the optic nerve and found it can lower eye pressure, but it may also lower blood pressure, which could harm the optic nerve due to a reduced blood supply. THC can also help preserve the nerves, a small study found.
Medical use of cannabis helps reduce intraocular pressure in eyes with glaucoma.

Multiple Sclerosis / Muscle Spasm
The analgesic properties of marijuana can help treat chronic pain that afflicts some patients with this neurodegenerative condition. Also, studies show that marijuana is effective in combating muscle spasticity that causes the condition, and is believed to be stopped and neurological damage that causes muscle spasms. Using marijuana or some of the chemicals in the plant may help prevent muscle spasms, pain, tremors and stiffness, according to early-stage, mostly observational studies involving animals, lab tests and a small number of human patients. The downside -- it may impair memory, according to a small study involving 20 patients.

MigraƱas
Although few studies have been conducted in the United States, it is considered that marijuana is an effective treatment for migraine attacks. Recently, a California study published in The Journal of Neuroscience highlighted the positive results of treatment with marijuana in migraine patients.

Marijuana types

Here we discuses about mainly Types of Marijuana. Nature offers us naturally three types of cannabis plants, which can be labeled as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica and Cannabis Ruderalis. Each of these varieties has specific patterns that help us know which type of plant in our hands and what their effects when consume.

Types Cannabis

If we are looking for a variety (a plant) with effect "triggers", euphoric, happy, creative, energy, appetite stimulants or antidepressants, our best option is to grow a variety sativa or predominantly sativa hybrid. Sativa varieties generally have this set of effects or any part of this group, when they are consumed in proper measure.

If instead you are looking for more physical effects, relaxing level, our best option is to grow a variety (ground) or a hybrid Indica with Indica predominance. These varieties have more relaxing effects, both mental and physical level. Many provide a narcotic, sedative.

Suppose we have no experience in growing marijuana or do not have the time to attend to our plants, then the auto-flowering varieties are our best option, these come from crosses with Ruderalis, which provides that special feature that makes the plant does not require specific lighting cycles to flourish. Although these varieties are only recommended for outdoor marijuana crops.

There are countless varieties of indica, sativa or ruderalis, we see that characterizes for identification

Cannabis sativa:

Originating in America (Mexico, Jamaica, Colombia ....), Asia (Thailand, Nepal ....) And Africa (Congo ....) Are very tall plants, elongated and large internodal distances. They have thin leaves with fine and elongated leaflets. They are very different from cannabis plants indica leaves for example. In temperate and tropical climates .... They are where better grow and bloom.

Its flowering cycles vary from ten weeks to fifteen weeks, so that their cultivation is not recommended for inexperienced growers. During flowering usually they triple their size and even more so the height can be a big problem in crops inside if not control growth or apply any specific pruning: Pruning Marijuana plants

Its flavors are varied, from the typical and claimed incensed to more complex flavors like spices, spicy.

Its effects are mainly brain, depending on the variety, creativity go from euphoria or appetite stimulation. Usually they provide very social and active effects, although some varieties also offer something introspective and paranoid effects.

Cannabis Indica:

Originating in India and Pakistan mainly are medium-sized plants with shorter than Sativa varieties internodal distances. They have broad leaves with wide, shorter than Sativa varieties leaflets. Many times when we see a growing Indica plant, compared with a lettuce, due to the width of the leaves.

Its flowering cycles are around seven or eight weeks, its cultivation is not as complicated as with the more sativa varieties so they can recommend a large number of growers. During the flowering cycle usually just double their height, so you grow them indoors is not a problem. Indica varieties better resist cold and wet climates that sativa varieties ..

Its flavors are varied, predominantly floral and fruity fans are sweeter flavor varieties usually but can also offer large and deep earthy and woody flavors.

Its effects are mainly physical, relaxing and sometimes indicated for pain medicinally, especially muscle aches. Highly recommended to relax or sleep.

Cannabis Ruderalis:

Originating in Liberia and Siberia are very low plants, with low-rise flat. Such variety of features not pinpoint a specific light cycle to start flowering. They are widely used for hybrid varieties with Indica or Sativa and get what we now know as auto-flowering varieties. Since they are germinated until they are harvested it can take three months or four.

Hybrids:

It is known as hybrid variety to all those that are the result of cross between sativa and indica varieties or hybrid cross between others. They may have sativa, indica dominant features or maintain a good balance between the two. Because we know about parenting to determine their growth and flowering cycles, production, etc ... it is impossible to determine without knowing more details the variety itself.

Usually hybrids are stronger than pure (sativa or indica) and in many cases, many varieties have better results than pure varieties. You can find out what types of effects presents each variety: Effects of Marijuana.

Important info about Legal marijuana

Here we discuses about mainly Legal marijuana. The use, possession, sale, cultivation, and transportation of cannabis (marijuana) in the United States is illegal under federal law but the federal government has Announced That if a state wants to pass a law to decriminalize cannabis for recreational or medical use They can They do so, but They need regulation To have a system in place for cannabis. Cannabis is listed as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, the highest classification under the legislation. This Means That the substance Has Been Claimed by the US federal government to Have Both high abuse potential and no established medical use.

However, Individual state laws do not always conform to the federal standard. State-level Proposals for the rescheduling of cannabis Have Met With mixed success. Currently, the use of Both recreational and medicinal marijuana Has Been Entirely legalized in the states of Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. The cities of Portland and South Portland in Maine; as well as Keego Harbor, Michigan, have fully legalized marijuana for Both medical and recreational use. The District of Columbia have legalized fully recreational and medical marijuana, but recreational Currently commercial sale is blocked by Congress. Twelve states Have Both decriminalization and medical marijuana laws. Ten states, Guam, and Puerto Rico Have only legalized medical marijuana. Three states and the US Virgin Islands Have only decriminalized possession laws.

What are weeds?

A weed is a plant that grows in a place where you do not want to grow. Generally, this concept applies to the species that grow on crops.
The weeds have spread globally, associated to crops that characterize so many of the weed species are introduced Navarra, from other places.
Some are part of the flora of Navarra long, while others have very recently joined, like weeds from the rice fields.
Weeds are characterized by their high dispersal ability, very persistent and very competitive. Decrease crop yield, interfere with agricultural structures such as water pipes, or in the process of harvesting and marketing.

Near the weed concept is invasive plant: it is an exotic species with great expandability and reaching alter natural ecosystems of a region, often displacing native flora. Some of these invasive species are weeds. They can be from plants grown as ornamental plants or be accidentally present in other crops.
Some are parasitic weeds such as Cuscuta, or broomrape (Orobanche sp.); however, are not all parasitic weeds, and some appear to not restrain their host, as with Cytinus ruber, a parasitic cistus white flowers (Cistus albidus).

What is medical marijuana?

Photo of a marijuana leaf stem sustained with the tips of fingers of a person.
The term medical marijuana is generally used to refer to the use of whole marijuana plant or crude extracts of this to treat a disease or symptom. The Food and Drug Administration of the United States (Food and Drug Administration-FDA) has not recognized or approved plant marijuana as medicine.

But scientific studies of some of the chemicals in marijuana, called cannabinoids, have led to the creation of two drugs in pill form by the FDA, which contain cannabinoids approved. The continuation of this research may lead to the discovery of new drugs. Here we discourses about mainly medical marijuana and it's benefit.

As the marijuana plant contains chemicals that may help with the treatment of various diseases and symptoms, many people argue that marijuana should be legalized for medicinal use. Before the FDA approved any medication requires careful studies (clinical trials) are made hundreds of thousands of people through clinical trials to determine what the benefits and risks of the drug. So far researchers have not (large-scale) sufficient clinical trials that show the benefits of marijuana plant (contrary to cannabinoids) outweigh the risks that this can have on patients for which would be used as a treatment.

There has been growing interest in chemical plant marijuana, cannabidiol (CBD), for the treatment of certain conditions such as child-epilepsy disease that causes violent convulsions in children. For this reason, scientists have cultivated marijuana plants and oil CBD created exclusively for therapeutic use. These drugs have no intoxicating properties thus may be less desirable for those who use marijuana recreationally. You can get more valuable info about medical marijuana from  CBDWeed Online.
